Mathis was worth it!
Despite some notable acoustical challenges at Centennial Hall, the concert proved to be a worthwhile investment of both money and time. His voice, although not as youthful as in his earlier years at 82, still possessed a smooth and mellow quality. The comedian accompanying him delivered excellent, region-specific humor that resonated well with the Tucson and Arizona audience. Following the intermission, improvements in sound quality were noticeable, indicating efforts to address earlier issues. The selection of favorites like Misty, Chances Are, and Moon River kept the audience captivated throughout the performance. A better concert venue in Tucson is sorely needed, particularly for optimal sound quality in the orchestra seats towards the sides.
